Accreditation Affirms College’s Dedication to Providing Quality Education
WEST COVINA, Calif.—At its May 2016 meeting, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) awarded initial programmatic accreditation to North-West College’s Surgical Technology program at its Long Beach campus. The five-year accreditation followed a rigorous review process, including a self-study and two-day inspection of the Long Beach program.
“Receiving this distinction means we meet or exceed the standards set forth by CAAHEP, the premiere specialized programmatic accreditor in the field,” explained Corporate Director of Compliance Ann Marie McGuiness-Leary. “Earning CAAHEP accreditation also attests to the quality of our Long Beach Surgical Technology program and affirms that we are preparing our students well.”
Students in the Surgical Technology program benefit from a blend of rigorous classroom instruction and hands-on training—a combination that enables them to cement their newfound knowledge and skills. With the addition of CAAHEP accreditation, Long Beach Surgical Technology students are now eligible to take the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Upon passing the exam, graduates are considered Certified Surgical Technologists.
“At North-West College, one of our Core Values is: We Will Always Remain Totally Compliant with Our Regulators,” McGuiness-Leary shared. “This latest accreditation demonstrates the College’s continued commitment to offering excellent educational opportunities to our students. It’s also a testament to the Team Members at our Long Beach campus, who work diligently to ensure that our students are equipped to succeed in the health care field.”
In addition to the Surgical Technology program at the College’s Long Beach campus, the Surgical Technology programs at NWC’s West Covina and Riverside campuses also hold CAAHEP accreditation. The Surgical Technology program at NWC’s Santa Ana campus had a site visit in pursuit of CAAHEP initial accreditation in April 2016.
