North-West College (NWC) Offers Help to Displaced Everest Students and Staff

Everest Students May Be Able to Finish Their Education at One of NWC’s Southern California Locations

WEST COVINA, Calif.—Corinthian Colleges, the parent company of Everest College, Heald College, and WyoTech, announced the immediate closure of its California campuses this week, citing legal and financial challenges with the U.S. government. The closure affects more than 16,000 individuals, including 12,000 students and 1,500 staff members throughout California.

In the wake of this event, North-West College and Glendale Career College (GCC), both operated by Success Education Colleges (SEC), began efforts to reach out to and assist displaced Everest students and staff members.

“Our College is committed to helping the students of Everest College complete their education,” President Mitchell Fuerst explained. “We have formed a special Task Force for this situation, and we’re working with the regulatory community to find the best path forward for each Everest student.”

Immediately following news of the closure, North-West College dispatched Task Force members to several Everest College campuses throughout Southern California, including Ontario, Ontario Metro, Santa Ana, Anaheim, City of Industry, Alhambra, Reseda, and Gardena. This Task Force has met daily with Everest students and staff members, exploring how North-West College may be able to help them complete their education or join the NWC Team.

In addition, North-West College is hosting a special Open House for Everest students and staff at each of its seven campuses this Friday, May 1, 2015, beginning at 10 a.m. Individuals who attend can meet the NWC Team, learn about their transfer options, and take a campus tour.

To further assist Everest students, North-West College has also created a School Closure Survival Guide at http://www.nw.edu/school-closure-survival-guide containing helpful information for students along with links to resources from the California Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) and important loan information from FedLoan Servicing.

“We don’t want Everest students to have to start their education over,” Fuerst said, “so we’re dedicated to doing everything possible to help them transfer to one of our programs at North-West College or Glendale Career College.”
